AUTOMOBILE
INSURANCE - When shopping for car insurance, don't overlook the obvious.
Insurance agents earn commissions based on your premiums. The more you pay, the
more your agent makes! Know your state's minimum insurance requirements. Don't
let your agent talk you into $250,000 property damage coverage if your state
requires only $25,000. Over selling coverage is how agents make their
money! When comparing auto insurance companies, compare apples to apples. It's
difficult to compare "your" policy to "their" policy if the coverage limits are
different. Make sure you're comparing the same liability coverage as well
collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorists, towing, rental car replacement
and, most importantly, the same deductible.
HOMEOWNERS
INSURANCE - Home insurance is truly one of those necessary evils. Over the life
of a 30-year mortgage, coerage for a $100,000 house might cost $20,000. In most
cases, though, the insurance is added into the mortgage payments. New
homeowners beware! Don't automatically accept the insurance offered by
your lender! Shop around for better coverage and rates. Know your area and the
inherent risks. If you live in the south, make sure your policy covers tornado
and hurricane damage. If you live in a colder climate, make sure your
policy covers winter perils such as damage from frozen pipes and roof collapse
due to the weight of snow.
LIFE
INSURANCE - It's unfortunate that most people under 50 don't worry about life
insurance. Proponents of this coverage often call it "death insurance".
More accurately explained, life insurance is for the continued life of the loved
ones left behind and to cover the burial expenses of the deceased.
RENTERS
INSURANCE - This is probably the most overlooked insurance on the market. If you
rent a home or apartment, read your lease. Chances are your landlord is
not responsible for the safety of your belongings. If the building burns down or
is flattened by a tornado, your landlord is not liable for the damage to your
belongings., If you rent the dwelling in which you live, check into renters
insurance NOW. In most areas of the country, the rates for renters
insurance are extremely low.
